The signal

DatamarNews released updated OTI (Ocean Transportation Intermediary) rankings for Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay comparing January through August 2026 performance against the prior year. The data reveals significant volatility across the South American freight forwarding market, with standout performers and notable declines indicating structural shifts in regional logistics capabilities and customer preferences. Brazil's export market showed the strongest growth, driven by Allog's remarkable 54.6% year-over-year increase, positioning the forwarder as the region's container export leader.

However, not all major players experienced gains: Kuehne & Nagel, a global logistics giant, saw export volumes decline 6.1% in Brazil while managing mixed results across other countries in the ranking. Import dynamics differed sharply, with CTS Global Logistics Brazil posting an extraordinary 1,621.6% surge, though this likely reflects a very small prior-year baseline rather than sustainable growth. Argentina and the River Plate region exhibited different patterns.

Argentina's export market remained relatively stable, while import volumes contracted broadly, with Locksley Logistica leading despite a 33.4% decline. Paraguay and Uruguay data showed even more dramatic volatility, including Cargopack's 1,292.4% export growth spike. These rankings matter for supply chain professionals because they signal where market consolidation is occurring, which forwarders are gaining traction with major shippers, and where capacity constraints or service improvements may be emerging.
