The signal

Miami International Airport has launched a new airport cargo community system (ACCS) in partnership with software firm Kalé Logistics, marking a significant digital infrastructure upgrade for one of the world's major cargo hubs. The platform consolidates information sharing among freight forwarders, cargo handlers, truckers, carriers, and ground handlers, replacing manual and fragmented processes that have historically created operational inefficiencies and excess emissions. The deployment addresses real operational pain points: with over 1,600 daily truck trips and 190 cargo-only flights needed to move 3.1 million tonnes annually, the airport faces substantial coordination challenges.

The ACCS promises to improve truck scheduling, reduce waiting times, and enable better advance planning across the cargo ecosystem. Kalé estimates that full implementation could yield $250 million in annual operational savings, eliminate 5,900 tons of CO2 emissions annually, and conserve 3,000 trees by reducing paper handling by 15% and turnaround times by two hours per truck. This initiative carries strategic significance beyond Miami.

The platform will serve as foundational digital infrastructure enabling MIA to connect with international partner airports, strengthening its position as a global cargo gateway and supporting its 13.6% year-over-year cargo volume growth. For supply chain professionals, this represents a model for how airport cargo operations can modernize through collaborative digital ecosystems that enhance visibility, sustainability, and profitability simultaneously.
