CMT's New Safety Platform Reshapes Carrier Selection

Cambridge Mobile Telematics introduced Freight Safety Intelligence in September, a new platform that provides freight brokers with 90-day rolling driving behavior analytics and carrier safety scores derived from existing telematics systems. The platform addresses a critical gap in broker decision-making: traditional FMCSA safety ratings are outdated and unavailable for 94% of eligible interstate carriers. By offering real-time, data-driven safety insights, CMT's solution helps brokers make better carrier selections while allowing participating carriers to demonstrate recent performance improvements. A May 2024 Supreme Court ruling in Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II established that brokers can face negligent-selection liability under state law, elevating the legal and operational stakes of carrier vetting. With large trucks involved in 5,218 fatal crashes in 2024, brokers now face both regulatory and reputational pressure to use defensible selection criteria. CMT's platform fills this void by combining telematics data with existing broker evaluation tools.
